| Of Nicaraguan and Mexican descent, Rocio Garay will graduate from Anderson High School in Cincinnati, OH with a perfect 4.0 GPA. With an aspiration to become a chemical engineer, Rocio has spent the last 3 summer attending science camps at North Kentucky University, Carnegie Mellon and this past summer at Renasselaer, where her favorite projects involved manufacturing processes, mechanical engineering and chemical engineering. In addition to her passion for engineering, she has also served as her school’s marching band field commander, was the President of her school’s National Honor Society and Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica ; and was awarded with the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Honor, the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and a National Hispanic Scholar. Also involved in her community, Rocio volunteers with GLADHouse, an organization supporting elementary-age children whose parents have drug or alcohol related problems. This fall Rocio will pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. |
