Petry was born in Bani, Dominican Republic and feels that her heritage has helped her become fully aware of her potential. Petry keeps herself pretty busy by participating in the Key Club, the League of Environmental and Animal Protection Ecology Club, and the Youth Advisory Board. As part of the Key Club Petry has fundraised for UNICEF, the AIDS Foundation and volunteered at Walk America’s March of Dimes. She has also contributed to the creation of TeenSpeak, a booklet on physical activity and nutrition and served as youth spokesperson at the launch of the Healthy Teens Initiative, a campaign to improve the relationship between teenagers and their doctors. Being a part of the School newspaper “The Science Survey” has helped Petry hone her writing and interviewing skills affording her an opportunity to explore journalism. Petry will graduate Bronx High School of Science with a GPA of 4.0 and in the Fall attend Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
