While with the Bengals, Anthony earned and received a number of honors, including NFL Man of the Year in 1991 and the Bengals’ Man of the Year Award from 1987-1991. The NFL’s Man of the Year Award is given to the player who excels as a role model both on and off the field and, aside from the honor it bestows on the winner, it comes with a $25,000 grant. Anthony split the grant between the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati and a nationally syndicated radio show dealing with family issues. He was named to 11 consecutive Pro Bowls and was named NFL Offensive Lineman of the Year before his retirement from professional football in 1993. Since that time Anthony has served as a television analyst for ESPN and FOX and continues to cover the Bengals on local Cincinnati Television and Radio stations as well as serving on the NFL Youth Board.
Having come from a disadvantaged background, Anthony’s success serves as an example to all youth of what can be accomplished with a strong resolve. He believes deeply that education is truly the key to success and in support of this cause he has spoken at hundreds high schools discouraging the use of drugs and alcohol and urging students to stay in school.
In April of 2002, Anthony took the next step in his dedication to the youth of America by starting The Anthony Muñoz Foundation (AMF), a non-profit organization whose goal is to positively impact young adults mentally, physically and spiritually. In a short period of time, the AMF has created programming that has touched the lives of thousands of youth and their families.
