Raul Yzaguirre

Raul Yzaguirre continues to lead the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) as its president, continuing his lifelong mission to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans. NCLR represents 150 community-based organizations that provide thousands of programs serving more than two million people. A life-long community activist, who worked in the Migrant Division of the United States Office of Economic Opportunity and the War on Poverty, he established the first Hispanic research association in 1969. Mr. Yzaguirre has received numerous honors for his vision and accomplishments. He was the first to receive the Rockefeller Public Service Award for Outstanding Public Service from the Trustees of Princeton University and has served as one of the first Hispanic Fellows of the Institute of Politics at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Raul has received the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest honor given by the government of Mexico to non-citizens, for his defense of Mexican and Mexican American values and human rights in the United States. He has also been awarded the Hubert H. Humphrey Civil Rights Award, the Charles Evan Hughes Gold Medal Award, five honorary degrees and was the first person listed in the ?Who?s Who in America? in 1980. Recently, Raul was elected to the National Boards of the Salvation Army and 4-H Club.
