LOFT Healthcare Symposium
Aug 1 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

If you are a health student, aspiring health professional and/or curious about health policy and health technology and innovation, we invite you to be a part of this one of a kind experience.  Join HHF as we help bring together students, doctors, policy experts, and health entrepreneurs to share where the health field stands today and where it is headed. RSVP today!

Objective:

Leaders On Fast Track (LOFT) seeks to host its first ever Healthcare Symposium in an effort to diversify the healthcare industry. LOFT has the ability to convene undergraduate students, raise conscious, and strengthen understanding of different careers that affect healthcare.

Despite being the fastest growing demographic in the United States and the largest minority group in California, Latinos remain largely underrepresented within the healthcare industry. Demographic data and reports from the 2010 U.S. census indicate that Latinos are the lowest represented minority in healthcare. In addition to careers in clinical health, health policy is a non-traditional career route that also lacks crucial representation. Health technology is also an aspect of healthcare that is growing; however, currently less than 6% of all tech workers in California are Latinos.

The Healthcare Symposium will bring together 100 students of color and feature a variety of speaker panels & session, which will focus on different aspects of healthcare. Students will hear from leading healthcare professionals, coming from various unique professional and educational backgrounds — MD, DO, MPH, MBA, RN, and many combinations in between.

Structure:

The LOFT Healthcare Symposium will feature a keynote speaker, four (4) panels and one (1) breakout session. The sessions will be diverse in format and will include;

1. Panel session comprised of admission committee members for schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy, and public health;

2. Formal presentations by a panel comprised of admission committee members for nurse practitioner and physicians assistant programs;

3. Panel session comprised of health tech start up entrepreneurs, and

4. Panel session comprised of health policy experts. Each panel and presentation session will include time for both presentation and discussion.
